"Spring": Sight Seeing Spots You Should Visit in Tokyo

Today, I'm going to be introducing one of my favorite places. The Meguro River. The Meguro River is one the most famous places to visit during your stay in Tokyo. The Meguro river is famous for its cherry blossoms and over 3 million people visit just during the spring season.

As you can see, many cherry blossom trees are planted alongside the river. When I first saw the Meguro river's cherry blossoms, I was astonished at its beauty and tremendous amount of cherry blossoms. It's especially beautiful at night when the Japanese lanterns --Bonbori-- ligt up the river. Just like in this picture.

The Meguro River runs through the Setagaya-ku, Meguro-ku, and Shinagawa-ku. It is approximately 4 kilometers in length and over 800 cherry blossom trees line the river. There are many unique cafes and restaurants and is currently popular within young adults. In some particular food shops, you can oversee the amazing view while eating and do "ohanami".

There are also many food stands lining the river during the cherry blossom festival also known as "sakura matsuri". There is no exact date decided, but the "sakura matsuri" is held only while the cherry blossoms are blooming. Soon as the cherry blossoms fall off, the "Bonboris", Japanese lanterns will be taken away too.

So, in order to spend a great time, don't forget to check if the cherry blossoms are still blooming! Or you'll be looking at green leaves instead of beautiful pink flowers. (I personally like the green view though...)

Another time of year you can enjoy the meguro river is winter. Even though there are no leaves and flowers, you can enjoy the illuminations. It is especially popular among couples. And if you're visiting Japan with your boy/girl-friend (or just your friend), I recommend you go and watch the illuminations at least once.
